           Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD/ADD)

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD/ADD) also known as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a chronic disease occurs in certain age and years of a children, defined as a condition with characteristics of co-existence of attentional problems and hyperactivity. It effects about 5% of the all children in the world with boys have 3-4 times higher risk than girl. Over one third of children with ADHD will have continued symptoms existed into their adult life.

The Nutritional Supplements - Trace minerals

Trace minerals are micronutrients that have played a vital role in the body's function but with a small amount. Zinc is an essential mineral that is naturally present in some foods and as an essential cofactor of more than 100 enzymes, including metalloenzymes and metalloenzyme complexes, which are necessary in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fatty acids, proteins and nucleic acids. In recent studies estimate its prevalence to three of ten hyperactive children, and there are data that about 4% of children have the complete frame of the disorder, researchers suggested that children with ADHD have low levels of zinc in their bodies compared to children without ADHD may be a result of zinc deficiency (42). In a controlled comparison group study, (Konofal et al. 2004) showed that iron deficiency was correlated to ADHD symptoms severity, hypothesizing that iron supplementation may improve symptoms of ADHD in those subjects with low ferritin levelsmitter dopamine of which may help children with ADHD.(43)

                    Overcome Infertility

Infertility is defined as inability of a couple to conceive after 12 months of unprotected sexual intercourse. It effects over 5 millions couple alone in the U. S. and many times more in the world. Because of unawareness of treatments, only 10% seeks help from professional specialist.

Acrosome Reaction Test of  Male Infertility In Conventional medicine Perspective

An Acrosome reaction test is a sperm analysis. The sample is taken through masturbation to see how the sperm performs during the fertilizing process. It may be necessary if the fertilization specialist suspects that the causes of infertility may be a sperm related problem.

Diagnosis
After the sample is taken, your fertility specialist exammines the acrosome reaction of your sperm to see how your sperm penetrates the female egg, how the enzymes (acrosome, then acrosin released from the sperm head) in sperm work through tough coating of the eggs to fertilize it. If not, it may be other causes of infertility and specific treatment is required.

Analysis
If the diagnosis finds that the sperm is unable to penetrate the egg because of a lack of acrosome or acrosin, then intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) may be suggested by your specialist so that the fertilization process can be by-passed by the natural penetration of sperm as ICSI is the direct injection of a sperm cell into the egg. If the ICSI is decided, then the fertilization process is either through intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

Since the test only provides a limited amount of information about how sperm penetrate the egg, some doctor may choose to forgo it because of very low percentage of males who have such problem, unless it is absolutely necessary.

Obesity is a medical condition of excess body fat accumulated overtime, while overweight is a condition of excess body weight relatively to the height. According to the Body Mass Index(BMI), a BMI between 25 to 29.9 is considered over weight, while a BMI of over 30 is an indication of obesity. According to the statistic, 68% of American population are either overweight or obese.

You can calculate your BMI index BMI= weight (kg)/ height (m2)

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is defined as endocrinologic diseases caused by undeveloped follicles clumping on the ovaries that interferes with the function of the normal ovaries as resulting of enlarged ovaries, leading to hormone imbalance( excessive androgen), resulting in male pattern hair development, acne, irregular period or absence of period, weight gain and effecting fertility. It effects over 5% of women population or 1 in 20 women.

The Studies of  Oxidative stress and inflammation in lean and obese polycystic ovary syndrome

In the study to determine whether polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) independently influences oxidative stress and inflammation or if the culprit is the comorbidities of obesity and/or insulin resistance common to this condition, by the Queen's University, posted in PubMed, indicated that
Oxidative status was increased in the PCOS subjects relative to their weight-matched controls (TOS: obese PCOS patients vs. obese controls, 42.42 +/- 4.49 vs. 32.57 +/- 1.97, p<0.05; lean PCOS patients vs. lean controls, 33.69 +/- 1.59 vs. 28.69 +/- 1.18 micromol H2O2 Equiv/L, p < 0.05). Furthermore, antioxidant capacity was lower in the lean PCOS group relative to their weight-matched controls (TAC: lean PCOS patients vs. lean controls, 1.10 +/- 0.09 vs. 1.49 +/- 0.03 nmol Trolox Equiv/L, p < 0.05).

                         Thyroid disease

Thyroid disease is defined as a condition of malfunction of thyroid. Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland is over active and produces too much thyroid hormones.

Euthyroid sick syndrome as a result of Sepsis

Sepsis is defined as a condition caused by chemicals released into the bloodstream to fight the infection trigger inflammation throughout the body as a result of severe infection(a)(b). according to the study by the University of Utah, sepsis is the commonest cause of admission to medical ICUs across the world. Mortality from sepsis continues to be high. Besides shock and multi-organ dysfunction occurring following the intense inflammatory reaction to sepsis, complications arising from sepsis-related immunoparalysis contribute to the morbidity and mortality from sepsis(c).

                                               The Diet

1. Onions
The onion is a plants in the genus Allium, belongs to the family Alliaceae, a close relation of garlic. It It is often called the "king of vegetables" because of its pungent taste and found in a large number of recipes and preparations spanning almost the totality of the world's cultures. Depending on the variety, an onion can be sharp, spicy, tangy, pungent, mild or sweet. Since it contains high amount of antioxidants, onion enhances the immune system in fighting against the forming of free radicals and foreign invasion, thus eeducing the symptoms of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and gout and infection caused by bacteria, including E.coli and salmonella, etc., according to the study of Antibacterial and antioxidantactivities of quercetin oxidation products from yellow onion (Allium cepa) skin." by Ramos FA, Takaishi Y, Shirotori M, Kawaguchi Y, Tsuchiya K, Shibata H, Higuti T, Tadokoro T, Takeuchi M., posted in PubMed(45).

2. Blueberries

Practical Application: The majority of wines are produced from grapes, but wine can also be produced from other fruits including blueberries and blackberries, which contain phenolic compounds that may contribute to human health, according to "Comparison of Chemical Composition and Antioxidant Capacity of Commercially Available Blueberryand Blackberry Wines in Illinois" by Johnson MH, Gonzalez de Mejia E.(46).

b. Inflammatory bowel diseases
In the study of blueberries and broccoli in mdr1a(-/-) mice (IBD mouse model) for theirs effect gastrointestinal tract, found that blueberry- and broccoli-supplemented diets increased colon crypt size and the number of goblet cells per crypt. Only the broccoli-supplemented diet significantly lowered colonic inflammation compared to mice fed the control diet, according to "Influence of dietary blueberry and broccoli on cecal microbiota activity and colon morphology in mdr1a(-/-) mice, a model of inflammatory bowel diseases" by Paturi G, Mandimika T, Butts CA, Zhu S, Roy NC, McNabb WC, Ansell J.(47).

3. Mushroom
Mushroom is a standard name of white button mushroom, the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus produced above ground on soil or on its food source, It is a genus A. Muscaria and belong to the family Amanitaceae and has been cultivation in many cultures all over the world for foods and health benefits.
In the analyzing White button mushrooms (WBM) and its effect in immune response, found that WBM promote DC maturation and enhance their antigen-presenting function. This effect may have potential in enhancing both innate and T cell-mediated immunity leading to a more efficient surveillance and defense mechanism against microbial invasion and tumor development, according to "White buttonmushroom enhances maturation of bone marrow-derived dendritic cells and their antigen presenting function in mice" by Ren Z, Guo Z, Meydani SN, Wu D.(48).

4. Green Tea
a. Immune system
In the investigation of the immunomodulatory effects of decaffeinated green tea extract in rain bow of the study of "Immunomodulatory effects of decaffeinated green tea (Camellia sinensis) on the immune system of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)" by Sheikhzadeh N, Nofouzi K, Delazar A, Oushani AK(49), researchers found that showed that decaffeinated green tea in lower doses of administration could be optimum to enhance the immunity of rainbow trout.

b. Antimicrobial activities
a. In the investigation of Antimicrobial activities of green of the study of "Antimicrobial activities of tea catechins and theaflavins and tea extracts against Bacillus cereus" by Friedman M, Henika PR, Levin CE, Mandrell RE, Kozukue N.(50), researchers found that flavonoids in green tea has exerted its ability in protective effects against Bacillus cereus.

2. Phytochemicals and antioxidants to prevent sepsis
1. Vitamin A and Immunity as antioxidants
Vitamin A occurs in the form retinol and is best known for its function in maintaining the health of cell membrane, hair, skin, bone, teeth and eyes. It also plays an important role as an antioxidant as it scavenges free radicals in the lining of the mouth and lungs; prevents its depletion in fighting the increased free radicals activity by radiation; boosts immune system in controlling of free radicals; prevents oxidation of LDL and enhances the productions of insulin pancreas(51).

2. High dose of vitamin C and Immune system
In the first comparative analysis of the ex vivo and in vitro molecular and cellular mechanisms of action of IFN-α and high-dose AA in HAM/TSP, found that in comparison to IFN-α, high-dose AA treatment has superior ex vivo and in vitro cell death-inducing, antiproliferative and immunomodulatory anti-HTLV-1 effects. Differential pathway activation by both drugs opens up avenues for targeted treatment in specific patient subsets(52).

3. Vitamin E and Immunity
Vitamin E is the most important chain-breaking, lipid-soluble antioxidant present in body tissues of all cells and is considered the first line of defense against lipid peroxidation and it is important for normal function of the immune cells. However, vitamin E deficiency is rare in well-nourished healthy subjects and is not a problem, even among people living on relatively poor diets, both T- and B-cell functions are impaired by vitamin E deficiency. While immune cells are particularly enriched in vitamin E because of their high polyunsaturated fatty acid content, this point puts them at especially high risk for oxidative damage, according to the study by Dr. Pekmezci D. at the University of Ondokuz Mayıs(53).

4. Allyl sulfides and Immune system
According to the article of "GARLICTHE BOUNTIFUL BULB" by Carmia Borek, Ph.D. posted in Life extension magazine, the author indicated that human studies confirm immune stimulation by garlic. Subjects receiving aged garlic extract at 1800 mg a day for three weeks showed a 155.5% increase in natural killer immune cell activity that kills invaders and cancer cells. Other subjects receiving large amounts of fresh garlic of 35g a day, equivalent to 10 cloves, showed an increase of 139.9%. In six weeks, patients with AIDS receiving aged garlic extract showed an enhancement of natural killer cells from a seriously low level to a normal level(54).

5. Allicin is phytochemical containing sulfur in the class of organosulfur compound, found abundantly in onion and garlic.
Antibacterial activities
In the comparison of those of allicin and several clinically useful antibiotics using two representative bacteria commonly found in the human environment, Gram-positive S. aureus and Gram-negative Escherichia coli, indicated that The garlic extract had more potent anti-staphylococcal activity than an equal amount ofallicin. In terms of antibiotic potency against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, authentic allicin had roughly 1-2% of the potency of streptomycin (vs. S. aureus), 8% of that of vancomycin (vs. S. aureus), and only 0.2% of that of colistin (vs. E. coli), according to "Antibacterial potential of garlic-derivedallicin and its cancellation by sulfhydryl compounds" by Fujisawa H, Watanabe K, Suma K, Origuchi K, Matsufuji H, Seki T, Ariga T.(54).

6. Cinnamon
a. Immunomodulatory effect
In administration of popular herb used in traditional medicine to treat various disorders such as chronic gastric symptoms, arthritis, and the common cold and its immunomodulatory effect found that observations provided evidence that CWE was able to down-regulate IFN-γ expression in activated T cells without altering IL-2 production, involving inhibition of p38, JNK, ERK1/2, and STAT4, according to the study of "Immunomodulatory effect of water extract of cinnamon on anti-CD3-induced cytokine responses and p38, JNK, ERK1/2, and STAT4 activation" by Lee BJ, Kim YJ, Cho DH, Sohn NW, Kang H.(55)

b. Antimicrobial Activities
In the observation of three natural essential oils (i.e., clove bud oil, cinnamon oil, and star anise oil) and their antimicrobal effects found that the cinnamon oil-chitosan film had also better antimicrobial activity than the clove bud oil-chitosan film. The results also showed that the compatibility of cinnamon oil with chitosan in film formation was better than that of the clove bud oil with chitosan, according to the study of "Synergistic Antimicrobial Activities of Natural Essential Oils with Chitosan Films" by Wang L, Liu F, Jiang Y, Chai Z, Li P, Cheng Y, Jing H, Leng X.(56)

c. Anti-inflammatory activity

Menorrhagia is defined as a condition of excessive bleeding in the menstruation phase of the menstrual cycle in the reproductive age of a woman leading to heavy blood loss that can interfere with the woman normal activities, as a result of disruption of normal hormonal regulation of periods or disorders of certain reproductive organs.
In traditional Chinese medicine, menorrhagia can be caused by combination of Spleen qi deficiency, liver blood deficiency, damp accumulation and treatments include Tonify spleen qi, nourish blood, resolve dampness.
Please note that in TCM, same disease may be treated with different formula and difference diseases may be treated with the same formula depending to the differentiation.

The Causes - Live blood deficiency

Liver blood stagnation is normally caused by liver qi stagnation or the liver is no longer function in blood storing and formation.
1. Poor diet
According to TCM, poor diet may affect the function of liver function in blood formation, if it fails to be properly nourished by the qi from the energy source of spleen. Diet with little or no iron also contributes to the blood deficiency.

2. Abnormal liver function
Abnormal function of liver can be caused by raw foods diet as its affects the spleen function in assisting the digestive system function in absorbing vital energy from foods that reduces the liver function in blood storing and formation.

3. Cold foods
Eating too much raw foods for a prolong period of time, may cause yang deficiency that effects the spleen function in transporting qi and disrupts the kidney in fluid distribution, leading to water accumulation in lower part of the body that creates a worse environment for dampness invasion.

3. Liver imbalance
Liver imbalance caused by excess of any pathogen or/and toxins accumulated can also reduce the normal function of blood storing and formation of the liver.

4. Alcohol drinking
Long terms alcohol drinking damages the liver function in blood formation and regulating the spleen function in energy distribution, leading to not enough blood for the circulatory system to supply nutrients and oxygen to the reproductive organs, resulting in symptoms of dysmenorrhrea such as cramps and pain before, during or after menstruation.

5. Anemia
Anemia is a chronic ill, it is caused by either easily broken off red blood cells or abnormal function of liver in blood formation.

                                 Dietary Minerals

Dietary Minerals are the group of minerals which is essential for our body to sustain normal functions and physical health.

                                      Boron

Boron, a vital trace mineral found abundantly in Almond, Red Apple, Apricots, Avocado, Banana, Red kidneyBeans, etc., is necessary for the normal growth and health of the body. Boric acid has antiseptic and antiviral activity. Its aqueous solutions have been used as mouth-washes, eye-drops, skin lotions and cosmetics(1).

The effects of Boronic acids and Candida albicans

In the study of the inhibition of the beta-carbonic anhydrases (CAs, EC 4.2.1.1) from the pathogenic fungi Cryptococcus neoformans (Can2) and Candida albicans (Nce103) with a series of aromatic, arylalkenyl- and arylalkylboronic acids, found that the host human enzymes CA I and II were also effectively inhibited by these boronic acids. The B(OH)(2) moiety is thus a new zinc-binding group for designing effective inhibitors of the alpha- and beta-CAs(13).
